Female Empowerment with Carina Belforte – Beatz Podcast #4
Carina Belforte, creator of the Woman Being podcast, told us about her experiences and talked all about Female Empowerment. Special thanks to the Beatz writers, Luana Oliveira and Adriele Martins, who led this Podcast with great questions.
What is Female Empowerment?
First of all, you need to know that female empowerment is different from feminism. But, do you know the difference between them?
Feminism, in short, is a movement in favor of the ideology of political, economic and social equality between the sexes. Female empowerment, on the other hand, fights for collective consciousness, which is expressed through various actions in order to strengthen all women to develop gender equality.
In other words, empowerment is a consequence of the feminist movement, being different things, even though they are interconnected. When we think of the term “empowering yourself”, it refers to the act of taking power over yourself and your decisions. Therefore, women need to recognize that they are capable of anything, to start making the necessary changes in society.
Women in the job market
Many women, even today, depend on their husbands' income to support themselves. This is also why they often end up subjecting themselves to toxic relationships and very difficult situations. With women in the job market, all sides will win. They will gradually achieve their financial independence; in addition to contributing to the country's economy.
Of course, when we think about the whole story, women have already taken a very big step. But still, great injustices are committed in the market. One of them, for example, is the salary difference between men and women in the same position. This problem affects many companies and, recently, a law was passed in Brazil to ensure the reduction of this problem.
What is Sorority?
Sorority is the attitudinal and ideal conception of female brotherhood, which has gained a lot of strength in contemporary movements. It refers to solidarity, empathy and acceptance among women. So, we can say that this term has everything to do with female empowerment.
There are still Brazilian dictionaries that do not include this word. Others indicate it as the feminine of “fraternity”. Therefore, it is important to disseminate the meaning and its importance in our society. We can cite, as an everyday example, a woman being harassed on the subway. When faced with this situation, according to their sisterhood, all women have an obligation to intervene and help.
How to insert female empowerment into school education
First of all, it is important to know that education on this subject needs to come from home. In other words, from the first years of a child's life, parents should comment on female empowerment, whether for a boy or a girl.
But, at school, all teachers must be aware of this topic, always staying informed. Small attitudes such as, for example, mixing the number of girls and boys in a group, creating debates between both sexes in the classroom, mixing them, already make a big difference.
This exchange of ideas between groups is fundamental. Years ago, we knew that there was always that “little ball club” and the “Luluzinha club” in every class. However, this distance between them ends up making society less egalitarian.
Furthermore, city councils can encourage, through social projects in schools, debate and knowledge on the subject. In this way, we would certainly be building a better and more just world.
Empowered women who are a reference
Brazil is a country where we have important references for women. To start, you don't need to go far. In our own homes, we can admire the actions of our mothers, grandparents, aunts, and sisters. But, when we think about the job market, there are still many others.
An example of a woman who always fights to leverage others is Luiza Trajano. Owner of the well-known Magazine Luiza, she participates in several businesses run by women, in addition to always fighting for their rights. We should all follow and be inspired by human beings like this. This is how we will build a better world for the next generations.
